January/February
January is "National Glaucoma Awareness Month". February is "Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)/Low Vision Awareness Month"
More than 2 million Americans age 40 and older suffer from glaucoma. Nearly half don't know they have the disease -- it causes no early symptoms. Prevent Blindness America (PBA) sponsors this observance each year to provide the public information about the "sneak thief of sight".
Macular Degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss, affecting 1.6 million Americans age 50 and older. PBA sponsors these observances annually to increase awareness of AMD and the potential of vision rehabilitation to make the most of remaining vision.
